IEC 62196 Plugs, Sockets, Vehicle Connectors and Vehicle Inlets - Conductive Charging for Electric Vehicles is a series of international standards that define the requirements and tests for plugs, sockets, vehicle connectors and vehicle inlets for conductive charging in electric vehicles, and is maintained by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Subcommittee SC 23H "Plugs, Sockets and Couplers for Industrial and Similar Applications and Plugs, sockets and couplers for electric vehicles" is maintained.
Plugs, sockets, vehicle connectors and vehicle entrances conforming to this series of standards are used for electric vehicle power supply equipment conforming to IEC 61851 series or IEC 62752 and for electric vehicles conforming to ISO 17409 or ISO 18246.
Most plugs, sockets, vehicle connectors and vehicle inlets conforming to this series provide additional contacts to support specific functions related to electric vehicle charging, e.g., no power supply unless the vehicle is connected and the vehicle is stationary while driving. Still Connected.
